This week's Question:

If you have a tendency to slice the golf ball with your Driver – what part of your swing should you spend the most time working on to 'fix' your slice?

You are Correct!

ANSWER: C - Impact

There's only one thing that makes a golf ball slice (or hook for that matter) – side spin. Whatever the direction the golf ball is spinning is the direction it's curving. Understanding what causes side spin is the key to 'fixing it' or cutting it down.

Of the 4 choices – only impact has anything to do with excessive side spin because the direction and amount of spin is determined when your club face hits the golf ball.

Of the 3 other answers, two of them have a little influence on what your club face looks like at impact and 1 is just an excuse people throw around. Which one is that? Follow through. Your follow through has nothing to do with anything the golf ball does. Your follow through happens after you hit the golf ball - so the ball doesn't care what your follow through is doing. The ball's gone – it's not looking back at you to see how you followed through.

A good looking follow through is just the result of doing everything well prior to it. Practicing your follow through won't help the flight of your golf ball one bit!!

Yes, your set-up can influence your backswing. And yes, your backswing can influence impact. Though, there are many Golfers that can hit great golf shots with weird back swings (see Jim Furyk and Kenny Perry). How can these Players hit the ball so well with weird looking back swings? Impact!

If you can learn how to move into good impact – it's amazing how your set-up and backswing and follow-through seem to 'self correct' because of that. Many of the compensations that Golfers create in their set-up, back swing and follow through originate because you're trying to correct for a bad impact. But, if you improve your impact – you'll naturally (meaning without giving it much thought) improve these other parts of your swing.
