This week's Question:

If after hitting a bad shot on the golf course – another member of your group (that you’re actually better than) suggests a swing correction for you to try, you should:

You are Correct!

ANSWER: D - Ask them why they think this correction will help

Some Golfers are more than happy to give anyone and everyone advice on what you’re doing wrong in your golf swing. We call it the “Joe Pro Wannabe Syndrome”. And unfortunately these Joe Pro Wannabes seem to be everywhere – golf courses, driving ranges, New Year's cocktail parties.

The issue is – is any of the advice they’re telling you going to help you? The answer most of the time is … well, you know what that answer is because I’m sure you’ve tried their advice. So no, don’t just try it, but at the same time, don’t just ignore their advice. You just never know – there might be a bit of good information in there.

Though, to be sure it is good information that pertains to your golf swing and not just some advice they picked out of Monkey Digest or off an Internet Chat Room – ask them why this pertains to your golf swing. “Why would this golf tip help my golf swing?” or if they tell you what you’re doing wrong in your golf swing, ask “Why do you feel that is negatively affecting my golf swing?”

If they can’t explain to you in a manner that you understand or makes sense – don’t do it. If anything, after your round – call Golf Made Simple to ask if they were giving you relevant information.

To see how your answer compared to others who took the Golfer Knowledge Poll - make sure to look for next week's Golf Improvement Weekly
