This week's Question:
Which grip will help you to hit a controllable Draw? A Draw is when a right handed Golfer has a golf ball flight that curves slightly to the left (and a left handed Golfer has a golf ball that slightly curves to the right).
That Answer Is Not Correct!
The Correct Answer is D - None Of The Above
There are myths in Golf lore that have been passed on from
Golfer to Golfer that have ultimately become fact in the minds of many Golfers
just because they have heard it over and over.
Yet, just because you have heard that a Strong Grip will help you hit a
Draw – doesn’t mean it is fact. If that
was the case – then every slicer could just turn their top hand to see more
knuckles and their slice would be instantly gone forever.
Changing to a stronger grip just to stop a slice is a
band-aid, or in other words - it’s a compensation. And ‘Compensations equal Inconsistency’. So although you might straighten out the
first ball or two you hit – inconsistency will be back soon enough. And because this grip adjustment was just another compensation thrown on top of other
compensations – before long you maybe hitting the golf ball worse than before
your grip change. So much so, that
you’ll wish you never made the change.
A controllable ball flight is created when you have control
of the club face. Your golf club doesn’t
care how many knuckles you can see when you look down at your hand. All the golf club cares about is that you’re
in control of the club face as you swing.
And there have been many successful Golfers that have
employed weak grips, strong grips and every place in between. How do you know if you have a good grip on
the golf club? Just put your hands on the
golf club in the most comfortable position you can find because when your hands
are naturally on the golf club – you’ll be able to make a smooth, controllable
golf swing. If your hands feel like
they’re contorted – they are. And that
will lead to a contorted golf swing.
