"The Disappearing Golf Swing!"
Have you ever played a round of golf where you were hitting the golf ball well and then all of a sudden you lost your golf swing?
We call that the Disappearing Golf Swing.
We often hear comments from frustrated Golfers that are just coming to see us such as: “I just lost my golf swing! I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I was doing alright, playing my average game ... and then I just lost it!”
This situation shouldn’t be handled with panic or anxiety. Your golf swing is not lost. You still have your golf swing. You don’t just lose it. However, it is our job to help you find what are some of the causes (bad habits and compensations) that contributed to the Disappearing Golf Swing.
“So Marc, if I haven’t lost it … where did it go?"
Your golf swing may disappear for a little while as it is impossible to be 100% consistent for 4 hours on the golf course. 100% consistency really has never happened in the history of the game. So if a Professional Golfer that has been practicing for 6 hours a day, 7 days a week for 20 years has a Disappearing Golf Swing … you should expect for it to happen to you.
Now, I absolutely know that I will be receiving emails from “experts” that tell me that I shouldn’t tell Golfers that they should expect to have a Disappearing Golf Swing … continuing by telling me that Golfers should always stay positive and expect for the best outcome.
I understand what these “experts” are saying, however that is not reality. And setting unrealistic expectations for yourself is the main reason a Golfer will more frequently experience a Disappearing Golf Swing.
Not accepting that you will have periods of bad streaks will cause you to start to fiddle and tinker with your golf swing. Thus having you move farther and farther away from what you were previously doing well. What causes a Golfer to go on a downward spiral? Fiddling and Tinkering.
There is a fine line between a great golf shot and a terrible golf shot. The difference is as small as a half inch – perhaps the distance between the center of your golf club and the toe of your golf club. How delicate is that half inch? Try this: place a coin in your hand; set-up as if you were going to hit a golf shot (with nothing in your hand except the coin). Now swing back (a full golf swing) and through, releasing (underhand tossing) the coin across the room.
Now leaving the original coin in its resting spot, take another coin and do this again. Were you able to have that other coin stop less than a half inch from the first coin? My first thought is that it probably isn’t that close.
What does the example above represent? It shows how difficult it is to be consistent. Meaning, if it is that difficult to be consistent doing something as easy as tossing a coin … how difficult is it to do something as difficult as making a golf swing to hit a golf ball?
Without exception your golf swing will disappear from time to time. It is something that will happen and you will need to live with. However, the better the skill level of the Golfer … the less time the golf swing will disappear.
This is where effective practice comes into play. The Golfer that goes to the driving range to merely hit golf balls often experiences longer periods of Disappearing Golf Swings because these are the Golfers that are most often confused with their golf swing. The Player that has an effective Practice PLAN of combining drills with the hitting of golf balls is the Golfer that experiences less time with a Disappearing Golf Swing.
How much time should you spend hitting golf ball versus doing drills? Well, the drills should take up most of your time on the driving range. What do I mean by that? Perhaps you should read the previous Golf Improvement Weekly from May 24th (Issue #332 “Better Golf Practice, Better Golf Swing!”) to getter an idea of what an effective practice session should look like.
First remember how difficult it was to make a consistent toss with that coin … and then you’ll understand how difficult it is to make a consistent golf swing. Thus, your Disappearing Golf Swing is nothing more than a lack of consistency. Yet, the more effective you practice … the more consistent you become. When’s the last time you really looked at the effectiveness of your practice routine?
The Monkey feels his/her swing has left them and starts to experiment with different golf tips their friends give them to find their golf swing
The Player understands their golf swing will disappear from time to time and it is not a time to panic, but a time to do their swing drills
Go ahead, be a Player!

“The Class Was Fantastic - I Learned Sooo Much, It Was Incredible!”
I want to thank Marc, Hayden and both Alex’s for all of your concerns and help with my GMS experience.
I just finished my classes in Virginia yesterday. I was a tired puppy… but that just means Hayden knows how to teach golf in your system and get the max out of each golfer! The class was fantastic! I learned sooo much, it was incredible.
I am positive that just the putting lessons will reap great gains in my scores. Hayden was more than helpful in my specific issues and I appreciate his encouragement and patience. I know that the tips and advice he gave me will carry forward for years to come.
I will definitely look into GMS 1.5. I think that it will be well worth the effort based on my experience with Hayden.
Thanks again for the opportunity to take the class. I would love to help you fill any unfilled spots in the Virginia location. I will pass on and highly recommend the GMS school! I look forward to many great years of golf the GMS way!
Thanks,
Darrin M – Mt. Airy, Maryland

In addition I met three other wonderful people with the same goal as I had, namely getting better at the game we love! Jill, Lucy, and Jeff were really enjoyable to be with.
Thanks to Marc for developing such a solid program and for having your Instructor, James and I'm sure others, who make the experience fun.

"It Really Is Grand Geneva Nice!"
Marc has just returned from spending a few days at our GMS location just 1 hour outside of Chicago (45 minutes west of Milwaukee) at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
When he got back and was asked about the Resort, he stated – “This maybe our best GMS location!”
www.GolfMadeSimple.com/midwest-golf-schools.html
For Marc to say this is pretty impressive because if he does have a favorite GMS location … he usually doesn’t share it. “My favorite GMS location? They’re all great. I wouldn’t have our program at the resorts that we have them if I didn’t think they allowed for a great GMS Experience.”
So to hear him come out and just state that Grand Geneva Resort might be our best location … that’s high, high praise. He spoke particularly high about the golf courses, especially the Highlands course at Grand Geneva Resort. “For this golf course not to be rated as one of the best, most fun golf courses to play is a travesty! That is simply an outstanding, fun golf course to play. I could play that golf course everyday.”
Here are some additional bullet points from Marc:
Golf in Wisconsin - "People need to start thinking about traveling to Wisconsin for golf. Here's a state that has marvelous golf courses. You have Whistling Straits which has held the PGA Championship, you have Erin Hills which is holding this years US Amatuer and will be hosting the 2017 US Open ... and you have a phenomenal facility at Grand Geneva Resort! Although the cheese and brats are good in Wisconsin ... the golf is even better!"
Practice facility at Grand Geneva Resort – “Perfect, perfect green grass to hit off in our own private practice area. The practice putting green is huge and in incredible condition. There’s so much room to practice straight putts, however plenty of undulations to practice uphill and downhill putts … plus I haven’t seen a putting green that was better designed to do our Green Reading session.”
The Golf Courses - “The two golf courses are excellent. The Highlands Course (designed by Bob Cupp) is beautiful. One gorgeous hole after another - #4 is just the sweetest par 3 you’re ever going to see. I couldn’t believe how good a shape the courses were so early in the season. Pristine conditions.”
Restaurants at Resort - “The hotel has 3 restaurants including a steak & seafood restaurant called The Geneva Chop House; an Italian restaurant called Ristoranté Brissago, an American style food restaurant called The Grand Café, plus a coffee shop serving Starbucks Coffee in the lobby. Each restaurant fills a niche … you’re on vacation, what are the two types of food you want to eat? In my book, a complete vacation includes outstanding Italian food one night and great steak the next. Well, Grand Geneva has both!”
Easy to get to - “I fly into Milwaukee, got a car and was at the resort in 45 minutes.”
Service at the Resort - “Growing up on the East Coast, I always heard that people that lived in the Midwest were ‘Midwest nice’. I never thought much of that saying as I always thought people on the East Coast were always nice … after spending time at Grand Geneva Resort … people in the Midwest really are nicer. Grand Geneva nice.”

The Newest GMS Location - Big Sky Country Montana
Near Glacier National Park
GMS is proud to announce our newest location at The Wilderness Club in beautiful Montana. How good is this new location? This is a phenomenal facility! It was rated as the “#2 Best New Golf Course in 2009 by Golf Magazine”.
Classes start July 8th, 2011 – reservations start Today!
 http://www.golfmadesimple.com/big-sky-montana-golf-schools.html
What can we tell you about this location? Well, it was originally planned to be an exclusive, high-end, private golf club. However, things didn’t turn out the way the original developers planned. The new owners of The Wilderness Club called GMS and asked us if we would like to open our program at their facility. They said, after you see what we have up here for you and your Golfers … you’re going to love it. And they are absolutely correct - after seeing the property we couldn’t turn them down.
Our Practice Area
And the Practice Facility? It is love at first sight! What else can I say?

Accommodations

Accommodations are right on property. When the clubhouse was built – it was built with private rooms so that out of state members could fly in and stay right on property. No expense was sparred on this property. These rooms are now our rooms: great beds, private bathrooms, etc. It’s like a private hotel at the golf course … we have included photos on the website.
Surrounding Area

Can you imagine a more beautiful place to spend a few days than Big Sky country in the summer? We are talking about one of the most beautiful spots in North America.
You’re very close to Glacier National Park, along with some of the best fly fishing and horseback riding in the world!
So if you’re coming just for GMS and golf – it’s pretty convenient. Yet, if you’re looking to extend your holiday/vacation a few days - you're looking at an even more memorable time.
Travel Info
At first glance, it may seem as if this location may not be as “convenient” to get to. Yet, it’s actually pretty convenient. As far as getting to our Montana location (The Wilderness Club in Eureka, Montana) … it’s fairly easy. If you’re in the US and flying into to see us - Glacier International Airport is just 60 minutes away and has direct (non-stop) flights from Seattle, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago and Atlanta.

Plus, for everyone in British Colombia and Alberta … if you’re looking forward to taking advantage of the weak US Dollar ($1.00 CAD = $1.03 USD) … we’re not a far drive from Calgary, Fernie or the Canadian Rockies Airport in Cranbrook (with direct flights from Vancouver).
