'Why Henry Hates Golf' Part III
With much awaited anticipation Golf Improvement Weekly has arrived in 2007. From Golf Made Simple, we wish all of our readers a very Happy and Healthy New Year. If you have not read the previous issues from December 2006, you may be asking yourself “Who is Henry?” Henry is a frustrated golfer and is in need of some helpful advice about the game of golf.
We continue this week with Marc explaining to Henry that Golf is a game with many levels of skill and in order to raise it to the next level, you must define your current skill level.
”So Marc, what you're saying is that I need to practice more around the greens, until I become more consistent with the sand wedge before I start practicing my other clubs?” Henry offered.
”Yes, but I think you'll improve and be moving on to the next clubs faster than you think. See, Karate has done a much better job than golf has in letting the participants play to their skill level.” Henry blurted out, “Karate!?”
”Yes Henry, Karate. In Karate you're given a belt according to your skill level. The lower belts like a white belt knows his or her skill level isn't as high as a black belts skill level, so you practice skills that will get you to the next level which is yellow. Then when you are a yellow, you practice skills that will help you move on to an orange belt, and then so on up to a black belt. But, a white, yellow or orange for that matter, know they can't do the same things as a black belt. If they did, they'd probably end up hurting themselves. So their practice is set-up to help them work on their way up the order of belts.”
”So Marc, are you saying that I am a white belt that is trying to play like a black belt? And that has been hurting my progress?” Henry offered.
”Henry, you're the best! Yes, that's what I'm saying. We watch golf on television and we see Tiger hitting a 3-wood from 250-yards from the green and we think we should play the same shot as Tiger. But, Tiger is a Black Belt.” Henry interjected with laughter – “Tiger's probably a 10th degree Black Belt in golf terms!”
”Henry, you're right. You on the other hand are probably a Yellow Belt in golf. You shouldn't be trying to practice the same stuff as Tiger. You need to practice the things that'll get you to be an Orange Belt, which is the equivalent of a high 80's shooter. And that's what we're going to speak about right now!”
”Henry, what makes the ball go up in the air?” Henry answered, “loft.” “Yes Henry, loft is part of the answer, but what makes the ball go up and stay up?” “Getting underneath the ball?” Henry said with a semi-puzzled look.
”Not really” I said. “My thought is this - if you don't know what truly makes the ball go up in the air, how are you going to be able to do it consistently? What makes the ball go consistently up in the air for every club, not just the sand wedge, but every club is...”
Look for the solution that will help Henry become a more consistent golfer in next week's Golf Made Simple Golf Improvement Weekly as Marc outlines what it takes to become more consistent and confident.

Jeff,
Weather was gorgeous here on Tuesday so Mike sent me out to play with the girls. I shot a 99 and was truly thrilled because the greens were in terrible condition - I probably 3 putted every one of them. Overseeded with rye which has not sprouted yet so there is no grass at all since they scalped them first. Also, the ducks have been eating the seed and pooping all over them. Since we didn't have a broom, couldn't clean off our putting lines
Biggest problem I had was trying to figure out what club to hit - I think I am getting 10-15 yards more distance with my irons (not a bad problem!) I laughed every time I got ready to hit my sand wedge, remembering my inflated ego "95 yard sand wedge" shot on the par three that was way short.
Started hitting shorter towards the end and remembered the belly turn and fixed it - was so awesome. Can't wait to get back out there this weekend.
I'm sorting through my "to do" list on my desk and will get my evaluation forms in the mail today.

Hi Wat,
I played today at Friendly Hills. Haven't played since last week. Tick tocked around the front nine, but didn't start to play well until #8.par. #9 par -front nine 52. But here's the rest of the story...#10 par, #11 bogey, #12 par, #13 par, #14 par,#15 par, #16 - my son said I had a lot of pars - double bogey #17 - bogey and #18 par. I shot 39 on the back nine. I think it was the first time I've broken 40 for nine holes. I was in fairway bunkers and greenside bunkers and didn't have any problem, I am pretty confident now that I can get of most bunkers.
My planning and tick tock was really working on the back.
In anycase, I will keep you updated.
THANK YOU WAT!!!!
Take care.

'The BUZZ'
This Week: The Southern Hills Plantation Club, Tampa Our Newest Golf Made Simple Location
After a 3 week hiatus – Golf Improvement Weekly is back. Now it’s time to start talking golf again! Though, we know the devoted Golfer never stops talking about golf.
We started the year off with the opening of our Tampa Location. As we already knew – the feedback for our new location has been fantastic! Jeff Seigler – our GMS Instructor at our Tampa Location – has really taken GMS to the next level with the practice facility we have at Southern Hills Plantation.
So far in our first 2 classes at Southern Hills, we’ve had 4 Golfers that have previously attended Golf Made Simple at our other locations. And we have many more Returning Golfers that are already signed up to see us in Tampa over the next few months. And as the word gets around about how good this facility is – I believe we’ll have even more Returning Golfers coming to Tampa.
And with temperatures this weekend expected to be: Friday 78 degrees; Saturday 80 degrees; and Sunday 81 degrees – why wouldn’t you want to be here playing golf?
And that’s the Buzz for this week’s Golf Improvement Weekly
Until next week –

"I must admit - I love these Golf Tips that Golf Magazine delivers each month. I believe one of the major factors that Golf Made Simple has grown and is currently growing like it is - is that Golfers love to read Golf Magazine for it's tips. Because each month they confuse your golfing situation with more and more crap. And thus this gets Golfers from around the world all messed up with these complicated methods (that don't work) - so that at some point you say 'I need to make this game more Simple!' "
