Have You Ever Lost It On The Golf Course?
The answer is Optimism. The question – What does every round of golf start with?
How many holes on the golf course does your optimism last? Can you make it past the 15th hole without losing some optimism? Ok, ok – can you make it past the 7th hole without losing some optimism about your game? How about the 3rd hole?
It’s infrequent when a Golfer can go more than 7 holes on a golf course without losing some optimism. Though, there’s no shame losing your optimism. Believe it or not – Golf can be frustrating!

I see a lot of Golfers that start out fast on the golf course making a few pars and bogeys (maybe even a birdie) over the first few holes – then all of sudden this lose it. What happened? Where did your swing go? When is it going to come back?
Here’s an analogy -
Some of the most influential, successful people I’ve met through Golf Made Simple have been from the financial field – and me not being shy about asking for a stock tip, I ask for some advice every-once-in-a-while (hey, I’m allowed to ask – how many times a day do you think people ask me for Golf Tips?). And every successful financial person has said virtually the same statement – “Marc, investing is not a 100 yard dash. Investing is a marathon. The successful investor paces themselves. Over this marathon you’re going to have years where you lose money and years where you’re going to make money. Yet, the key is what you have when the money is counted in the long run. The 100 yard dash investor is the one that suffers the most losses.”
And that same analogy could be used for Golf. 18 holes is a marathon. You’re going to go through every emotion available to you over those 18 holes. Yet, for some Golfers, when they lose that initial dose of optimism somewhere around hole #5 – it stays lost!
The successful Player knows that it’s to be expected to lose some of their optimism – though they also know that it can be found again. They know they’re going to hit 2 or 3 bad Drives into the trees during their 18 holes. And they know that they're going to doubt their swing on their next tee shot. And they know they're going to fret about their ability to make a 7 foot putt for par after they 3 putted their last 2 holes. And they know that 18 holes of Golf is a marathon. You’re out there for 4 to 5 hours – if your optimism fades after 1 hour – don’t convince yourself that it’s not going to come back over the next 3 hours.
90% of Golfers can make 3 double bogies in a row along with a quadruple bogey somewhere along the way and still shoot their best score ever for 18 holes of golf. Though, so many Golfers believe that after their second double bogey that “that’s it, my score is ruined – there’s no reason to play anymore!”
And backing up what the successful financial professionals said about investing is a marathon – if you took all your money out of your investments in the Dow Industrials back in mid September 2001 because you lost optimism – what were you thinking? The Dow Industrial average is at its highest point ever.
18 holes on the golf course is not a sprint. It’s a marathon. And during this marathon you’re going to stumble every-once-in-a-while; you might even trip and fall on your face a couple of times. Though if you understand that even the best Players in the world do the same stumbling every round they play (except if they’re shooting 59), then you will allow yourself to make significant strides in your game.
The Monkey believes that once they lose it – it’s lost
The Player knows the Monkey thinks that way and uses it to their advantage to win more money on the golf course!
Go ahead, Be a Player!

Hayden,
I want to thank you for the most fulfilling 3 days of lessons. From the first lesson to the last, you're right - I love the name Golf Made Simple. It's not that hard!
I'm trying to eliminat the Monkeys and understand my swing as it pertains to the hole. My good shots have improved and are more common. I have more faith in my swing and my ability, which helps my confidence on the course. Understanding that I will not hit every shot prefect, and to forget it and focus on the one at hand. My “Tick-Tock” has improved.
Last week went out and played some nice holes. I started on the first hole one over and then I made par on the next 5 in a row. Wow, imagine me - 5 pars in a row! The most I ever had before was 2. That showed me your lessons work and it was well worth the time and money to learn. One of the most important things was teaching me how to PLAN my shots for each hole, selecting the right club at the right time for my golf swing. You told me to play into my strength, and not feel pressure to try to keep up with the long ball hitters.
I told you that I play with a great bunch of guys and that we play for a crown. Well, guess who owns the crown now! I plan to keep it for awhile. My friends were very impressed with my drives and how smooth my putting was. They ask me what I learned and I just told them, well its simple - its not “Monkey Talk”. They don't get it, but they see the results. Again, thanks for making this game far more enjoyable for me. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Hi Scott,
I am now back home in Denmark.
Thank you for three days where I learned a lot. There will be three points from where I will get the most benefit in my future golf games and that is:
- Have a PLAN for each shot
- Remember my Tick Tock
- Use the "Belly Swing" and practice the "Modified Belly Swing”
I had a round of golf in Daytona Beach, and most of my drives were straight or with a little fade. Few drives were bad, but I knew how to correct them. There was also a couple other bad shots, but it was either the Tick Tock, the Belly Swing or the Weight Shift. But now I know how to correct these mistakes and my next shot were much better.
I shot an 86, and was very pleased!
I look forward for the season to start here in Denmark. I will still have some bad shots and not so good rounds, but my average rounds will be better and I will know how to get back on track. I will absolutely use what I have learned.
Best regards,

Daylight Savings Time = More Time to Have Fun Playing Golf!
This past Saturday in the United States and Canada we all lost an hour of sleep – but, we’ve gained an hour of sunshine to go out and play some more Golf! Did you know when you attend the GMS Program, that after your daily Instruction you have the option to go out and play unlimited Golf on your own? Here in Florida, it’s getting dark around 8pm – I bet you could play at least 9 or more holes each afternoon – or you could go back to your hotel and jump into the Jacuzzi after your day on the Golf Course too!
We do have one or two spots still available at our Amelia island and Tampa locations for April - then the next available spots open are in May, and those dates are filling up quickly! And in San Diego, April 6-8 and the last week of the month, April 30-May 2 have one spot available.
If you had not listened to the GIW from last week, then you haven’t heard about our newest locations which will be opening on June 1 in Lake Tahoe – the Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club – talk about nature and beauty all rolled into one, the Golf Club and the Lodge at Whitehawk Ranch are just breathtaking.
Regards,
Alex

Thinkers are Stinkers! The more you think - the more you stink.
Learn to PLAN your way around the golf course.
The Monkey is always thinking about their swing and what they need to do to correct it.
The Player is always thinking about their PLAN to get around the golf course.
The choice is yours!

Cal-Culate This?
Mark Calcavecchia – Winner of this past weeks PGA Tour Pod’s Championship here in Florida scored 75 (4 over par) in the first round of the tournament. It’s not such a shock that a PGA Tour Player shot a 75 – it’s that he was able to keep his optimism up after being just about in last place and 8 shots away from the lead in just one round.
Though, to put in context how important putting is for your success on the golf course – when Mark scored 75 in that first round, 36 of those 75 strokes were putts. Now the key is that he struck the golf ball as well as anyone in the tournament in that first round – though he wasn’t even close to lead.
Yet, by the third round he improved his putting so much that he only had 23 putts for the 18 holes. How much did he improve his ballstrking between his first round 75 and his third round 62? None. He didn’t improve his ballstrking one bit! He went from 36 putts in the first round to 23 putts in the third round
The fastest way to improve your score 10 strokes is to improve from having 40 putts per round to having 30 putts per round.
