"Best Round Ever!"
Hayden,
My game has been improving. In fact, I shot my best round ever - 83 - this past summer. I really put everything that I learned at Golf Made Simple together that round, especially planning my shots. I also had 3 or 4 low and mid 90s rounds on a 10-day golf trip to Ireland in August (with a 92 at Old Head), under some pretty tough conditions.
Thanks again, I'll stay in touch,

"My Handicap Has Improved 5 Strokes With Limited Play"
Jeff,
I recently had my best game breaking into the 80's at El Macero Golf Club. I shot an 89, (which is even better than first glance since it's a tough course and I haven't played as much as I would have liked this year). On every round I seem to pitch or chip one in the hole. I've learned a lot about balance over the ball. My short game has improved and so has my putting.
My index is down every month. It is now 21.6. It was a 26.6 when we met. Improvement is consistent.
All my best,

"I Went From Over 110 to the 90's"
Hi Jeff,
I must say it's been a good season. I consistently hit in the 90's now. I think that's great since I was hitting in the 110-120 range before I came to GMS. I also broke 90 once.
Driving accuracy is no longer a problem. I hit the fairway or at least keep the ball in play with almost 90% of my tee shots. Putting has greatly improved so that I'm one and two putting with greater consistency. I'm no longer afraid to hit my 3 wood off the fairway.
The other day I was off on my shots at the beginning of my round and realized my pace was off. Went back to the good old tick tock and things came back into play.
Also, Matt (my son that also attended GMS) broke 80 the other day.

"I Went from a 25 to a 20 in a Few Months"
Scott,
I can't believe it's been 7 months. Here is a synopsis around my play this summer. Overall my Index has come down from a 25 to a 20. The thing that I have liked most about my game is that when posting my handicap I have seen so much more consistency in my scoring. Whereas my 25 index was based on my 10 best scores that jumped all over the place, my current scores have been very consistent, typically between 92 and 96.
My high note of the summer was winning the Flag Day tournament. I finished the round with 4 strokes left to my handicap and made par on the first hole to win.
I read my GMS newsletters and see you smiling in all of your pictures, but in the back of my mind I know you weren't having as much fun as you had with John, Cathy, Greg, and me.
Take care buddy and keep in touch,

"I Shot My Best Score Ever!"
Hi Wat,
Good news. Yesterday I shot my best score EVER - 87. The course rating is 72.5 and slope is 126. Not an easy course.
I got into a couple fairway bunkers including the last hole. I'll never forget your words when I got into one at GMS - "Hit it the same way!" I thought you were nuts, but heeded your instructions. The ball sailed out of the trap both then as it did yesterday and went about 170 yards, ending up about 6 yards short of the green in the center of the fairway. On another hole, I also came within an inch of sinking about a 90 foot putt for a birdie. That would have been the second best putt of my life. Still got the par. I'm making about 1 birdie a round these days and that's fantastic for me.
I also parred a long, uphill par-5 that I've never gotten less than a double on before.
Anyway, thank you again. I enjoy golf so much more these days.

"I shot my best this summer!"
Dear Wat,
My game continues to improve, all four of us played as much as we could this summer and we are all playing better. Your ears should have been burning because our favorite line was "Thank you Wat!" My sister bought us all monkey driver covers as a reminder to be Players and not Monkeys.
I shot my best game in Sun Valley this summer - 85!

"I Broke 90 for the First Time Ever!"
Hi Scott -
Dan and I played golf today and I broke 90 for the first time ever. I shot an 87. My putting was really good; I had 2 other pars that lipped out. I also had my best 9 holes ever. The front nine I shot a 40 with a 47 on the back. Dan was playing the blue tees and only beat me by 4 strokes. I'm a happy little golfer. Thank you and GMS.

"I Shot A 90 With A 9 On The Par 5 2nd Hole"
Scott,
Just wanted to update you on the Club Championship I told you about. I am currently in 5th place.
I started slow, though after about the 8th hole I found my groove. I was confident over the ball on all shots and my chipping and putting have greatly improved. I didn't crush every shot, but my misses were manageable.
I shot a 90 with a 9 on the par 5 second hole. I accepted my fate and moved on.
After that I had bogeys and two doubles finishing the front with a 47. Once I let go and did my 'Tick Tock' along with the 'Modified Belly Swing' I began to trust it. I felt better on the back finishing with a 43.
Also, I only had one 3 putt. It was on a par three that I reached in regulation, but that was THE only 3 putt all day!! I am so confident now that I feel I can two putt almost anything my course has to offer.
I found myself smiling on the back nine, having more fun on the course than I have had in a long time. I didn't worry about bad shots; I just did my 'Tick Tock' and let it happen. I can not wait until tomorrow's final round.
Thanks again and I will let you know how it goes Sunday.

"I Finally Made An 88!"
After years of golfing always in the 90's, I finally made an 88! Have worked hard on my putting and it has improved a lot. Also short shots relying on length of swing and accelerating through and of course tick-tock!

"My Best Score Ever!"
Hi Hayden,
Yes I owe you one!! First off, I am the first woman ever in the 100 year history of Pine Hills Country Club to get a hole in one on hole #5.
My handicap has improved to 23 and my trend is improving...that means on my course I shoot in the 90's. I also had an 88 this year - my best score ever. I just keep making my Plan and saying my Tick Tock. Its so much fun for me! How is you wife and son? He must be getting big.

"I Improved From A 23 Handicap to a 16 Handicap"
Hayden,
I have been applying the lessons we learned from you for the past eight months. My game has improved considerably. I have only been over 100 once or twice, and have been shooting mostly in the eighties, with a low of 81 on a course with a rating of 71.0/127.
I've improved from a 23 handicap to a 16 handicap. I feel I have only utilized about a third of what you taught us, so I am expecting to continue to improve for the next year or two. I really feel you have given me the tools to become a single-digit handicap.
Susie has been talking about coming back for another session. We have both told many people about GMS, usually after they have remarked about our markedly improved games.

"Most Scores Now In The Mid-90's"
Hello Scott,
Thanks for responding. Since I left you, I feel my game has improved. I still have the occasional over 100, but most of my scores are now in the mid 90s. Recently I even had an 89, with a 40 on the back 9 on a course that I had never broken 100 on. The 40 for 9 holes is my personal best.
Also, I saw Cathy B (whom I recommended that she and her husband attend a GMS Class) today and she told me they loved GMS.

"92 - Best Score Ever On My Home Course"
Scott -
Since I last communicated to you, I posted my best score ever - a 92 on my home course, which has a 137 slope rating.
And this was with not a great putting day - 40 putts - which is reflected in posting 48-44. I hit 14 of 15 fairways, and 7 GIR's. On an average to good day, I usually have no more than 3 or 4.
In fact, I was striking the ball so well, that I overshot 2 or 3 greens with my approach clubs, which were carrying 10-15 yards more than usual. No complaints here from that type of problem.
I have taken your advice, and have been using "The Stepping Drill" with my pitching wedge in my practice sessions. And occasionally, when I hit an iron fat, I know that my weight is staying back. So I will take one or two practice swings with "The Stepping Drill". Thank you for pointing me in that direction. It has really made a difference.
Thanks for your help, and keep in touch.

"My Last Three Scores I Broke 90"
Scott,
Just wanted to drop you a note thanking you for the 3 enjoyable days in Amelia Island. Results are starting to come through with my last 3 scores all breaking 90 at 89, 87 & 86 with 2 of those at my home (difficult) course.
I came to the GMS with 2 goals, to improve my drives and to make cleaner and more accurate chips. Both are dramatically improved.
Thanks to the 'Stepping Drill': my balance has really improved. I am no longer struggling for balance and ending up on my back leg with my driver. The 'Parallel Hands Drill' has helped my weight shift and has given me 20 yards of distance and much greater accuracy. I am now hitting my second shots from places I haven't been before and narrow fairways no longer play games in my head.
When I first came to GMS in 2005 my goal was to consistently break 100. This year I wanted to consistently break 90. 3 of the 4 rounds I've played since the class have been in the 80s. I'm thinking ahead to my next visit when I'll be looking to consistently break 80! Well, I can dream, can't I?

"89 On Sunday, 90 on Monday"
Hello Wataru,
I just thought I'd drop you a line on my progress since GMS at Barona. When I got back to the Bay Area I had HUGE expectations from my GMS experience.
Since then, I have gone to the range and practiced my 29 Ball Warm-up Drill in the short game area, practiced my putting drills, sand drills, etc.............bottom line, I went out this weekend with my PLAN and shot an 89 on Sunday, and a 90 on Monday. The PLAN works!!!!
Thanks, Wataru and GMS for the tools I needed to improve my game!

"I Reached My Goal On The Third Day Of Class!"
Hayden,
I just wanted to thank you again for the last three days of golf instruction. It was absolutely fantastic and I wanted you to know that I think you are a great golf instructor and a great person. I'm on a definite "golf high" and finally understand how to hit a golf ball properly. It seems so easy now. Terry and I finished the back nine and I shot a 44 - unbelievable. Terry shot a 47.
I finally feel like a golfer now and can't wait to hit the range tomorrow to practice my drills and newly discovered ball striking ability. I've told several of my golf buddies. My goal was to break 90 within 6 months as we discussed earlier. I thought that was a realistic goal based on my skill level (26-28 hcp) before attending your class. I reached that goal the third day of your class if we count the front nine (44 with your coaching) and then the back nine (44 on my own).
Simply incredible. My confidence and swing competency has increased ten fold and I cannot thank you enough for the learning experience and for the great time that we all had. I'm playing twice this week and will keep you posted. Thanks again.

"I broke 90 For The First Time"
Hey Jeff,
Just received my Player Page with your e-mail address. I wanted to thank you again for an outstanding 3 days of GMS. I have only played a couple of times since returning from GMS. I am working on the four basic principles and I am getting a lot more consistent in my ball striking. GMS was a great experience and I look forward to doing it again next year.
My companion and your enthusiastic other student Dave, broke 90 for the first time last Sunday (89) with 3 birdies. Thanks again.

"I Shot 38, My Son Shot 45"
Scott,
Its Monday morning and I am back home and can't help but think of you out on the practice area with a new group. The temperature here in Michigan is 29 degrees and there is an inch of new snow on the ground. Looks like the clubs go back in the closet for at least another 3 weeks.
After we left on Wednesday, we played Thursday morning on the Palmer course in the Villages. On the back nine things improved greatly. Brian shot a 45, bogey golf. My father was on track to finish the same; he was thanking you on several shots during the round. He had several puts drop because he played less break on the up-hill and more on the down-hill. He also had a ball in the face of a bunker. Knocked it out to two feet for the sandie.
I shot 38, one double (ball in hazard), one bogey, and one birdie. I was very pleased.
Thank you,

"I Hit Every Fairway In Regulation"
Scott,
I shot an 88 last Thursday, hit almost every fairway in regulation. Concentrated on 'Pace of Swing' and more importantly 'Length of Swing' on the drive. With only about 3/4 swing, I am getting the same or more distance with the belly turn and I'm not slicing the ball. I might be picking up new clubs tonight after trying them out. I will keep in touch and as soon as I get some more playing time with my buddies, I will definitely be getting you some more students.

"Best 9 Holes After Class!"
Scott,
Just wanted you to know what a great time Nik and I had last week. I have not seen Nik smile so much since he was 8 years old. As I told you the last day, my expectations were pretty high coming into the week, but they were exceeded by GMS. We thoroughly enjoyed our time down there and I know our golf games will never be the same!
I will give you an instantaneous testimonial - even before we left Amelia Island, Jerry, Nik and I played the last nine holes after our last chalk talk and both of us played the best nine holes of the trip. Nik birdied the 10th hole with an 8 foot putt and I shot a 42 with a double bogey on 12. Nik shot a 46 and I reminded him that this 46 was shot on the toughest course in Florida. I used my 3 wood (had a Plan both times!) and knocked it on the green on 13 and on 18. You will probably be surprised that I putted from off the green on 14 to 18 and on 16 I drained a 30 footer for par! Jerry also hit the ball pretty well and on 17, we thought he had a hole in one!
I am not sure of the dates for Nik's Spring Break next year, but I would like to reserve two slots for us next year at the same time. I will verify the dates as soon as the school releases next year's schedule.
Thanks for your enthusiasm, your talents and your energy in making this a great experience for both of us. As I told you, you obviously love what you are doing and it is obvious and contagious!
I look forward to updating you throughout the year on our progress.

"My Best Round Was An 88"
Jeff,
I've played 4 times since our Southern Hills class in late January. I am back home in northern Michigan, now so won't get a chance to play for a while.
My best round was an 88 -- that's the lowest score I've had in a year. I'm hitting the ball better--more solid shots. My iron play is more solid and I'm making a PLAN on every shot and trying to maintain that discipline. My buddy who is an 80's shooter commented how many good shots I hit - especially my shots to the green which I now have more confidence in.
I'm excited and enthusiastic about my progress. Will keep you posted. Thanks for all your efforts.

"I am confident that I will reduce my strokes by 10 after playing several rounds"
Jeff,
I received your thank you note and wanted to give you some personal feedback. Please feel free to share it with Marc.
I received more meaningful training from these three days than I expected. I have done nothing but promote Golf Made Simple since being back home.
Since getting back home, I have not been able to continue to practice my drills. But I kept a 4 iron in my small condo in Boston to practice my drills in order to train my muscles.
I will be out West in early May and will be able to show my new game to my colleagues. I am confident that I will reduce my strokes by 10 after playing several rounds. I am around mid to upper 90's. When I reach 85 consistently, I'll be back to bring it down another 5-7 stokes. My guess is 18 months at the rate I play.
Thanks for the enjoyment.
